Launching of a root-sewn boat on Saturday, 22 August 2015
The traditional root-sewn boat that has been built on a boat-building course of the Sámi Education Institute will be donated to the Skolt Sámi Cultural Foundation. Building a boat with seams of root is part of an important restoration project aimed at reviving lost crafting skills. The project is a cooperation project of the Sámi Museum Siida and the Sámi Education Institute in Inari.
The blessing, launching and a test row of the root-sewn boat will take place in connection with the pilgrimage celebration of St. Tryphon of Pechenga at Sevettijärvi School on Saturday 22 August 2015.
The celebration starts at 10 a.m. with a programme that includes children’s performances and a lottery; coffee and bakeries are sold for the benefit of the student’s association of Sevettijärvi School.
We warmly welcome everyone to the celebration!
